No. 4 West Chester Tops No. 10 Belmont Abbey, 18-7

BELMONT, N.C. – No. 4 West Chester University picked up its first win of the season with an 18-7 victory over No. 10 Belmont Abbey Tuesday afternoon in a non-league women’s lacrosse match at Alumni Field. Stephanie Kienle scored seven goals while Jackie Baker added four to lead the Golden Rams’ offensive effort.

West Chester evens its record to 1-1, while the Crusaders fall to 4-3.
 
The Abbey took an early 2-0 lead. However, West Chester scored two unanswered goals to tie the game. The Crusaders then captured a 3-2 lead with 19:44 left in the half. West Chester responded by scoring the next six goals to claim an 8-3 lead. The half ended with West Chester holding a 10-6 lead.
 
West Chester scored the first five goals of the second half before Belmont Abbey scored with 12:29 to go in the game, but West Chester scored three-straight to close the game.
 
Kate Gavin made 15 saves in the net for Belmont Abbey. Mary Beth Green registered 12 saves for the Golden Rams.
 
Kienle finished with 12 points, adding five assists to her seven tallies. Baker finished with six points, adding two assists to her totals. Claire Grimwood registered a hat trick. Gabrielle Stitz, Nicole Haines, Courtney Whiting and Chrissy Stokes each scored as well. Grimwood tallied an assist to go along with her goal.

West Chester returns to action on March 19 when the Rams travel to PSAC rival Slippery Rock for a 4 p.m. contest.
